Each local commercial radio station in the UK has requirements in respect of its music and local content, such as news, speech levels etc. These requirements are set out in the station "Format", a document issued by Ofcom, the UK’s radio regulator. This Public File contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for our local community.

The Magic 1161 news team consists of two journalists based at the studios in Hull. During off peak hours we also broadcast the syndicated news service provided by Sky News.

Magic 1161’s Cash for Kids is the working name of ‘Bauer Radio Charities’, which was founded in 2010, registered charity number 1122062, company registration number 6424810. Prior to the foundation in 2010, the charity under its previous charity registration was formed in 2004.
“The aim of the campaign is to raise thousands of pounds for local children in crisis. For kids who are suffering from abuse or neglect, who are disabled and have special needs and for children and young people that need extra care or guidance.”
Magic 1161 run a series of large fundraising events specifically for Magic 1161 Cash for Kids. We also encourage local businesses, organisations and individuals to run their own fundraisers on our behalf. Help us raise more money so we can give out more grants.
Where does the money go?
All money raised in this area stays within the broadcast area of Magic 1161 & 96.9 Viking FM.
Here are some examples of where the money has gone:

£1,890 for Amanda aged 4 1/2 from Blackpool – Askin suit for a young girl with rare skin condition. This will support and stabilise her spine at a very important stage in her development.
- £1,293 for Jenna aged 10 from Preston – To provide an independent walker for a girl who needs it for movement.
- £250 for Thomas aged 15 from Wigan – Application to buy a strong, very low bed for a boy with psychosis disorder who jumps off beds with any height. The boy has been sectioned so having safety features at home will allow him to be released at weekends more regularly.
- £393 for Kevin aged 7 from Ribbleton, Preston – Boy with cerebral palsy, registered blind and severe hearing loss needs this easy communication device on his wheelchair to communicate with those around him.
- £4,100 for Anthony aged 4 in Fulwood, Preston - Adaptation to a family home to include hoists, an extended bedroom with sensory equipment and a new bathroom for boy with extensive disabilities.
- £2,634 for Christopher aged 13 from Wigan – A purpose built sensory room complete with mirror ball for boy with epilepsy and brain damage who has been abandoned by his parents and lives with his grandmother.
- £450 for Parenting 2000 in Southport – Holding fun day to bring all the families together who use Parenting 2000. The group, will be promoting sun safety on the day to the parents and children.
- £500, for, Phillip aged 3, from Ince, Wigan – Phillip has cerebral palsy and his 22-year-old mother needs driving lessons as she feels isolated where she lives and wants to be more independent. She has secured a car from the Mobility scheme but does not have a license. Driving will be a huge help for when Leon has appointments that he doesn’t have transport for.
- £1190 for Allan aged 10 from Blackburn – To provide a touch screen computer for boy with autism who is struggling to keep up with classmates.
