Darren is a local lad, born and bred in Hull, where he has lived for all his erm… 39+ years apart from a 3 month stint in Pontefract where he was on a secondment to work out why people in West Yorkshire pronounce their T's as D's. He is a massive sports fan and as you can see from his Steve Redgrave-esque phsyique, he only watches rather than plays. His teams being Hull City and Hull Kingston Rovers, May 3rd 1980 will live long in the memory.
Darren first joined Magic back in 1997 when the station launched to do a Saturday late night show. Such was his enormous popularity and sparkling wit that he was elevated to the high status of Sunday night as well as Saturday. After covering every imaginable shift on the station from weekends to late show he is now firmly ensconced in the morning every weekday from 6am.
An avid music fan, Darren loves nothing better than singing his head off to whatever is playing. Unfortunately, that has now ceased, as he has been banned by the station bosses for being tone deaf and not being able to carry a tune in a bucket. A complete show off and know it all, he has twice appeared on TV. Once on the now defunct 'Biggest Game in Town', where he won and collected a few quid and 'Ready, Steady, Cook', where he won and collected an apron with Ainsley Harriot's autograph on it – nice! In fact, word is, his appearance is still being talked about at the BBC. That’s Darren, not Ainsley. Oh, and he was on Bargain Hunt very recently too. But he didnt do too well so he isnt mentioning it.....much ! And of course Darren was part of The Magic Vikings on Eggheads which came so, so close to winning and defeating the Eggheads. Er but didn't.
Have a listen every morning for stacks of chances to win. We will have the Missing Word each morning at 7.20 and 8.20. Plus you can win a huge pile of Magic CD's by playing How Low did it go for? An item which sold at auction, but for how much? Nearest to the correct guess wins a CD prize pack. As well as that there is the Anagram, Back Spin and Here's One For You.
